The dilemma of choosing a new motorcycle

I can how seat height is an issue, living in at a similar altitude. I was looking at an old Honda 4 and it struck me how much bigger and taller modern bikes are.
Is Tony not interested in the FTR?
I put the lowering kit on mine and it's a twofold improvement, the height is that's only 30 mm but it makes mounting the bike so much easier. Then the handling is an added bonus, it feels so much better.

in his own words 'I'd end up dead or in prison cause I just don't trust myself to ride sensibly'

I did suggest it to him and he sat on a 2022 but he figures if he has something that looms lime a tourer he'd be more inclined to ride sensibly (yes we both know that he could still ride like a lunatic on pretty much anything)

I'm not a Harley knocker.

I purchased the first of the Harley 1200 Sportsers, when they were first released in the USA. Before that they were 883cc only. I was experiencing a mid-life crisis (I was turning 40!)

I owned it for nine years before I discovered Moto Guzzi. I still own a few, but far less of the peak of 17.

Now I'm embracing Indian. Only two (so far!)

lol well the Sportster was his first and only Harley.
but appreciate the compliment haha.
The Sportster owes it's longevity to it's inherent reliability, it evolved into one of the best motors the Moco ever made.
Back in the 80's the BEARS had a race meeting at Ruatapu, on the West Coast of the South Island. The track would cause cardiac arrest in the 21st Century it was in a sawmill and at 850 metres it had 5 corners. The photo is at drop of the flag we went out the front gate up the road and in the other gate...Madness!
Anyway there was this nutter on an '86 1100 Sportster who turned up late, didn't practice and proceeded to rule the track. He was Speedway rider from Motueka who rode down to race. The '86 1100 had distinctive heads and went like fuck, if you can't pick the Sportster in this photo you need help.BEARS Ruatapu 1987.jpgBEARS Ruatapu 1987.jpg

I have a Triumph (not the tiger) and the build quality is great. The new 660 Tiger Sport would be on my short list for a moderate all around bike.

This is quite possibly the best thing I've ever seen posted on this forum. Unreal.

@FTR London
The meeting ran for a few years, with some cooperation from the sawmill the timber was stacked a bit further away 😜
It was still cray cray. 🤪
The bike at the very back on the left is a little Morbidelli 125 blue smoke, it was a weapon. One year at the Sound of Thunder meeting the Morbidelli was weaving through the big bikes on a wet track, you had to be there 😳

Yeah well Harley and reliability seldom go hand in hand…but I give the guy cudos…that’s why Harley riders are always fighting. They can only get one in a Ute…my Aus friends will get that…😂👍

The challanger and new chief are good contenders.

And believe it or it the challanger has better suspension and breaks than the Chief and actually a good bit faster.

scouts too small imo
Is is the scout pretty fast though ? Do you know what horsepower the scout has

Looking for a new Bike.
I have done that alot in the past. Right now, my 2 are the 22 FTR Carbon and a 21 Kawasaki H2 SX SE.
But a couple of really nice bikes out there are the Yamaha Tracer 9GT and the Kawasaki Versys 1000.
I did ride the Versys last year during a Kawasaki Rider Days and that is a really nice bike and well equipped. Good power and reasonable price.
