Ride Command on the 22 FTR R.

Good evening FTR Friends: I have a question about the Ride Command (or RC for short) interface with the cell phone and what you can or can't do with it. I have connected my phone to it and had a call through the earbuds, however, sometimes the bike will take over the bluetooth and not allow me to hear anything through the Apple Air Pods for some reason?

1. Can I use google maps or any kind of Maps though the Ride Command Screen?

2. What can I do with the RC screen in interface with the phone?

3. Has anyone found how to connect the Air Pods to the bike quickly and easily ?

Hi there,

From my own experience.

1) No, you can set it up so you hear the GPS command through your audio output. The map won't show on the command screen.
It only shows incoming messages and phone calls.

2) I don't really understand this. Do you mean like control the Ride command from your phone? In this case it is not possible.

3) I don't have airpods but have built in speaker (SENA). You put them in pair mode and select them from the bluetooth screen. They should easily connect.

'I have connected my phone to it and had a call through the earbuds, however, sometimes the bike will take over the bluetooth and not allow me to hear anything through the Apple Air Pods for some reason?'
I have had the same issue with my sena while playing music. The music would randomly cut out and reconnect. You need to connect them separatly to the ride command. The airpods and the phone cannot be connected by bluetooth to each other while doing this. It interferes with the audio.

hey mate, yeah the Ride Command is.... intersting. The manual tells you to download the app but the app does NOT integrate with the FTR. Other Indians, yes. FTR, no.

1) no you cannot use any kinds of maps on the Ride Command screen on a 2022 or earlier FTR. They did introduce GPS for the 2023 model.

2) not a lot. apparently you can connect your bike headset to the screen as well as your phone and use it for text messages, calls and music.
However I have found that txts are distracting, and the calls/music doesn't work great. I just use my phone to headset and ignore the bike completely.

Thank you mate, and to that end, can you turn the bike bluetooth off? or will it always try to connect?

So here's an interesting situation... I don't have my phone (iPhone 13 pro max) connected to the bike and I just got a new Cardo Packtalk Edge. If I have the Cardo on and turn my bike on (like after filling up) the bike always takes over the headset. Happened with my Sena 20s as well. Any ideas? I have not even tried to pair the Cardo to the bike and bluetooth is turned off on the TFT.

hmm that's weird. how could they communicate if they're not paired?
my bike has never tried to take over my Sena S10

I think it is an Apple CarPlay issue. It keeps moving the connection from PT Edge to "Dock Connector"... need to look into it more to see if I can disable this. Very strange. The only work around right now is to start the bike before I turn on the PT Edge.

There is no CarPlay on the ftr.

But I had a similar issue. I just stopped pairing the unit to my bike.

If you have your phone plugged into the USB that is likely your problem. Your phone will see the USB connection as an audio device and attempt to send through there when it detects the connection. The USB on the ride command is not just a charging connection, it is a data connection to the ride command.
