I have a 2023 carbon r for about a year
After the break in period back in November of 2023 installed toce low mount exhaust Loyd’s v6 flash ecu and rear led tail tidy by rage and small led front turn signals
Bike ran awesome till two weeks ago cel came on and went into limp mode it cleared up so thought nothing of it. Filled up with fuel and the next morning cel and limp mode. Road to the dealer they couldnt find any trouble codes other then a kick stand short and front right turn signal short, but signals are working fine and so is the kick stand sensor. Road it home ran like normal filled up with fuel and the next morning again cel and limp mode. I notice a heavy smell of fuel could it be the charcoal canister or purge valve anyone had something similar happen any info would be appreciated

Oh man, I feel for you. This smells like incompetence… (either there is a short, or there isn’t. But with a short in an indicator that indicator doesn’t work…)

Yeah that’s what I said the blinkers are working and so is the kick stand sensor
I have a feeling it’s evap canister or the purge valve. At least from what I looked up the smell of fuel once it’s shut off is a symptom of that system not working. Hope they can figure it out but will see.

Limp goes something like this:
1. Connector not connected.
2. Wire out of connector.
3. Short, i.e., blows fuses.
4. Open, meaning, a cut in the wire harness.
5. Signal out of range, meaning out of ohm spec.

So for it to go phantom, it's not a sensor being out of range if it dials back in. Shows a wire loose and/or disconnects/reconnects. Looks like the ECU saves no history... bummer.

How full are you filling that tank? It’s recommended not to brim it i.e. right to the cap as this blocks the breather/evap.

I would always fill up the same way not all the way to the top but close never had an issue till 2 weeks ago. I did a check on the evap purge valve I don’t feel any suction when the bike is idling from what I looked up it should open when the bike is running so maybe that could be it but no codes are being thrown out for that.

So do you think a blinker would do that I switched them over to led blinkers like 2 months after I had the bike I’m just now getting these problems. I did notice a month ago my front left turn signal wasn’t working moved the wires around and it’s working again. Would that cause the limp mode ?

Winkers are 12v. Telemetry is 5v. So for it to limp, it's more telemetry, like TPS, intake vacuum signal, etc. Without a limp code, you'll have to check each 5v signal's input. Let it hard code so the code pops up on the dash.

Ok well it’s at the dealer right now
Waiting to see what they have for me. How would it hard code because I noticed when the fuel tank is below half a tank the bike runs fine and check engine light goes away. I road it for a week like that to work and small rides till I had to fill up and that’s when the cel came back on and limp mode. It just sucks not getting any codes from the screen or scanner that the dealer used.

4. Add fuel to the tank until it crests the oval-shaped opening in
the filler neck. The tank is full at this level. Do not overfill the
fuel tank. Fuel level should not rise into fill neck funnel.
Overfilling may result in degraded performance of engine and evaporative emissions control system.

Mm ok I would try to fill it up like that a couple of times on longer trips so could that be a reason for the cel and limp mode?

I top my gas up to the white spout being half way up it. No codes for me. A hard code is when the light does not go off. Hard code is like pulling a connector off each other. That sets the hard code. You have a phantom code that is not making/making contact.

So say the float system sets the code, then is cleared at half full. I'd disconnect the float assembly [harness] from the tank to the main harness. Then see if it limps the system. That's one way of narrowing down the limp.

P0462 or P0463 is a fuel level code. As for a limp to the system, only a disconnect knows for sure.

Did you ever find a resolution? As a new FTR owner, I'm curious to see what I might expect for the future. Thanks!

Well yes they did find a problem
The dealer determined it was a bad ecu
They covered it under warranty so that’s a good thing. Bike has been running good well as good as it can without the Loyd’s v6 tune. runs lean ass hell but only at low speeds do you notice the twitch throttle. dealer advised me not to retune it and leave it as is. Even with the low mount toce exhaust they said bike would be fine.
