Wheel Woes

I'm changing my tires. This is the first time I've used the Olmax tire machine and it works great. Very happy with it. But while I was cleaning the front wheel after removing the tire, I though, "Huh, that's a lot of runout at the weld seam... wait a minute, there's no weld seam on this wheel!"

Turn out to be a nice dinger in the rim bead seat:

Here is a still picture of the bend.

I have no recollection of when this might have occurred but the roads in and around Philly are terrible, so unsurprised... Bummer.

Yeah, this is the big question. Part of the motivation for changing now was a slow leak in the front. Pirelli Scorpions with over 10k miles. The rear is really square, but the front still had some life, but losing 3psi over night. For the moment, I decided to pull the front off and see if I could get it to reseat.

When I dismounted the front, I found some corrosion in the bead seat, enough to make the powder coat flake. Maybe this was the cause of the slow leak? Maybe it was the bend? Or the tire itself?

I guessed it was the corrosion, cleaned it up and remounted the tire. Still leaks.

I suppose I should mount the new tire and see if it holds.

Cast wheels are not only heavy, but super soft! Everything I have except the FTR has forged alum wheels.. There are shops that can straighten this out for you (I'm sure might contribute to hi-speed vibration)
I'd use it as an excuse for some forged ones myself tho..
Chinese cast wheels at that.. These are the heaviest wheels imaginable.. (just sayin)

I've already purchased a set of stock wheels for a great price. They should be fine. Maybe next time. I do wish I had purchased the RSD wheels when they were being blown out a couple years ago. At the time, I remember thinking, "That's tempting, but I don't really need them, and there's NO WAY I'll ever need to replace the stock wheels." Oh, well.
