2022 love it but surging!

IMG_20210421_175313_928.jpgHey all. Just joined the site and owners club. I picked up a fresh 2022 base FTR yesterday. I have just over a hundred miles on it. After some adjustment of the bar and suspension the bike feels perfect. New mirrors coming today too.

Problem though, it runs like poop half the time. Idle is all over the place and I get surging, quite a bit around 3500-4k rpm. It's especially noticeable with cruise on. This is rather disconcerting considering this was supposed to have been fixed on the new model.

Any ideas? I hate the idea of going to the dealer already.

I'd like to say ride it some more and see if it 'adapts' a bit over time, but this does sound disappointing out of the gate.

Serious, take it back to your dealer. If there's anything Indian claims to have worked on on the new model it should be a much smoother engine. I didn't read any complaints from those who went to the 2022 introduction event either.

Does it all the time, all RPM, just very noticeable above 3k. It was disappointing for sure to feel it, like it's jerking you back and forth, otherwise the bike feels great. Seat height is perfect, suspension I have nearly perfect. I called Indian and they told me to bring to a dealer, which I did. Got a loaner, hoping for a quick fix.

There weren't any for the 2019's either and look where that left us! It took many people 'time and dime' to get their FTRs running like they should have out of the crate. I know I arrived late to the tuning party but never truly realized how bad it was until it was tuned. I feel for those that are now buying 2022s that may now find themselves in the same position, especially considering that the issues experienced with the 2019 models were reportedly addressed and sorted. I sincerely hope this is a 'one off.'

Just about every review on the 2019 model talked about the weird running issues before they even reached dealer floors.

I know people who rode both the 2019 and 2022 press events, every one said the 2022 is much better than the 19 was.

But on the bright side, Ryan and Toce already have thier hands on a 2022 and the ecu and exhaust shall be cracked very shortly.

Got it back from the dealer. Tech said he noticed the jerkiness also and said it felt worse than the 19... which is what I said. Indian tech support wants me to put 300 miles on it. Saying the ecu is still learning... I call BS. I'll update when I have something. Right now it's annoying to ride at a consistent speed.

Speaking of exhaust... one thing I hate on this model... the entire exhaust is welded together, except for the muffler. As in there's no decoupling the cat from the manifold pipes. And they made the 2 to 1 oblong, so no easy cutting it off and using a joint pipe. I'm guessing California strikes again....

hmm.....
weird cause all the reviews of the 2022 said the fuel mapping is heaps better than the 2019 model. I wonder whether it's a different issue entirely?
Cause it sounds...familiar....

it looks great though!

The bikes have been know for mellow out after 1k as far as smoothness.
And yep euro5. A full system is the way to go anyway. Worth the money
